"An Exile's Toast"
During the dinner, it is tradition to have a brother read "An Exile's Toast," written by brother Frank Norris (California 1894). Brother Norris wrote this toast in response to being invited to a reunion dinner hosted by the California chapter. As he was in New Jersey and unable to attend, he sent his decline in the form of the Exile's Toast, which is read with a fake German accent and contains many references and inside jokes that were among the California brothers at the time. Today, it is a symbol of our brotherhood and a memorial to brothers who are gone but never forgotten.
